Encouraging Or Offensive? Miranda Kerr Goes Geisha, Samurai, And Anime For Vogue Japan

This is different!

Miranda Kerr is styled as a geisha on the cover of Vogue Japan's November issue, which also happens to be the 15th anniversary issue of the magazine.

In the accompanying spread, she is again styled in various traditional Japanese clothing, including a samurai-inspired look and a look that features her with long pigtails and a blue mini dress that gives off strong Sailor Moon vibes.

Though Miranda looks striking, one major problem with the theme is that it's once again using a white model to represent a non-white culture. They could've easily used a Japanese model instead.

But Miranda is very popular in Japan and has done many ads and commercials there, so maybe photographer Mario Testino and the Vogue Nippon crew thought the issue would be more successful with the supermodel on the cover.

Regina George may do car commercials in Japan, but Miranda Kerr does Lipton ice tea and laundry detergent commercials! She wins!

Jennifer Lawrence Will Co-Host Next Year's Met Gala! Learn The Theme HERE!

It's only been four months since the Met Gala, but planning for next year's soiree is already underway!

Today, Vogue even announced next year's theme, which will explore the influence of Chinese art and culture on Western fashions.

The gala, set to take place on May 4 (May the Fourth Be With You Day!!!), will be co-hosted by Jennifer Lawrence, Anna Wintour, Wendi Murdoch, Gong Li, and Marissa Mayer

We wonder if Raf Simons will whip up something extra special for J.Law!

We're assuming she'll wear Dior since she's the brand's face, but maybe instead of going for a new outfit, she can access something from the archives, particularly the S/S 2007 collection.

Called Chinese Whispers: Tales of the East in Art, Film, and Fashion, the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art will be prepared by the Costume Institute and the museum's Department of Asian Art, and will feature a look at the Asian-influenced designs of John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, and Laurence Xu, among many others.

We just hope attendees will keep things subtle. The risk of coming across as offensive seems rather high.

At least they have plenty of time to get it right!

Vogue's 73 questions series is one of our favorite new things!

It was fabulous when Sarah Jessica Parker and Blake Lively did it, but Anna Wintour outdoes them both! First of all, it's kind of incredible to have Anna answer one question let alone 73, and she also gives us an exclusive glimpse into the Vogue offices!

She really does have two assistants just like Miranda Priestley in The Devil Wears Prada

Watch the video to find out what she would never, ever wear and the real truth behind all the rumors about her!

You won't regret it! Just watch (below)!

Vogue Causes Controversy With 'Tone-Deaf' Article On The Big Booty Trend — Read Why!

Vogue magazine is very good at certain things (like photo shoots in bucolic landscapes), but it can still get things very wrong when it comes to culture pieces.

Sometimes they might as well be your totally out-of-touch parents who just found out what a selfie is and got overly excited about it.

Why do we say this? Well…

A recent article in the mag's September issue called The Dawn of the Butt: Big Booty in Pop Culture Over the Years by Patricia Garcia is a prime example of how behind-the-times the fashion bible can often be, especially for younger readers.

The piece, which heralds Jennifer Lopez as having lit the match that started today's booty craze fire, has been criticized for failing to mention and give proper credit to the countless black women who have historically been judged, objectified, and ridiculed for their naturally large butts and voluptuous bodies, while using mostly white or non-black women, such as J.Lo, Kim Kardashian, and Instagram belfie queen Jen Selter, as examples of the big booty ideal.

Criticism on Twitter has also noted how the article is guilty of white-washing black culture by claiming that big butts are only popular NOW that white or non-black celebrities have essentially appropriated them and made them suitable for consumption for the masses.

Below are some examples of the criticism:
