How’s this for a silver lining?
Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s untimely death, while inarguably tragic, saved lives.
Well, that’s the theory at least.
Writer, director, and fellow addict Aaron Sorkin first met Philip on the set of Charlie Wilson’s War. As they bonded over cigarettes, coffee, and recovery from substance abuse, they also admitted to each other that there was at least a decent chance that addiction might be what finally kills each of them.
According to Aaron, however, the Oscar-winning actor was able to find the bright side.
Phil, as Aaron called him, confessed:

“If one of us dies of an overdose, probably 10 people who were about to won├óΓé¼Γäót.├óΓé¼┬¥

What he meant, Aaron thinks, is that celebrity’s death are shocking and could maybe help scare a few folks clean.
We sincerely hope that is the case.
