American Airlines can handle turbulence — but not flatulence.
Earlier this month, Reddit user Glamgalatx documented a run-in with a fellow flier who was so farty they ended up delaying a flight from Phoenix to Austin! The Redditor, who claims to have been seated near an “audibly disgruntled” passenger, said it looked like he was having a “rough day” and was “grumbling” profanities under his breath. From there, things took a turn for the worse…

The uploader shared:
“Several minutes pass and majority of people are seated but we still hadn’t left the gate. I overhear him loudly say ‘You thought that was rude? Well how about this smell’ and farted”
UMMM, WHAT?!
For the most part, passengers ignored it. But when they started bringing out their plane snacks, the alleged farter got fussy:
“The man who just purposefully farted moments ago decides to loudly and condescendingly say ‘yeah, everybody let’s just eat the smelliest food possible all at the same time.’”
HE was complaining about smells?!
Apparently, that’s when someone told him, “If you don’t like it you can fly private.” But that didn’t sit well… The “fartman” responded, “that’s so f**king rude,” to which another flier said:
“I think we’d all agree you’re the rude one here.”
Seriously! The Redditor noted that the gassy guest called the back-and-forth “low class,” to which the first passenger responded, “well you’re back here in economy with the rest of us.”
It was at that point the flight attendants intervened, and apparently the plane came to a full stop before returning to the gate! Attendants asked him to get off the flight, to which he responded, “I don’t understand.” However, he ultimately grabbed his belongings and abided, and within 30 minutes, the plane was ready to take off again. The Redditor concluded:
“I think American handled it swiftly.”
American Airlines has not officially confirmed or denied the story.
