Amazon Covers NYC Subway Car In Nazi Paraphernalia In Viral TV Show Campaign Gone Wrong!

no title
Whomever made this call should probably start updating their resumé.
Subway shuttle cars on New York’s 42nd Street line aren’t just carrying commuters this week; they are wrapped up with all kinds of logos and imagery from Nazi Germany — and it’s on purpose!

Amazon is plugging their new TV show — The Man In The High Castle — with a viral ad campaign of stylized American versions of the Nazi’s eagle and imperial Japan’s red sun.
Wait, what?!
The sci-fi series is about an alternate universe where the Axis powers actually won World War II.
Ann Toback, one of many Jewish subway users in NYC, said this about seeing the insignias and images during her morning commute:

“Half the seats in my car had Nazi insignias inside an American flag, while the other half had the Japanese flag in a style like the World War II design. So I had a choice, and I chose to sit on the Nazi insignia because I really didn’t want to stare at it. I shouldn’t have to sit staring at a Nazi insignia on my way to work.”

No kidding!

Adam Lisberg, a spokesman for the transit authority in NYC, confirmed reports that a subway train car has been decked out in the promotional offensive materials, and there are more than 260 posters going up at stations through the middle of December.
Lisberg also said that, apparently, this campaign meets the standards set by transit officials for decency in advertising:

“The updated standards prohibit political advertisements. Unless you’re saying that you believe Amazon is advocating for a Nazi takeover of the United States, then it meets the standards. They’re advertising a show.”

We seriously doubt anyone is worried about that.
Perhaps people are upset because the Nazis did awful things seven decades ago, and the symbols out of context are a stark reminder of that??
Not to mention many New Yorkers have direct ties to relatives who were brutally affected by the Axis powers! Just a thought!

Not surprisingly, Toback wasn’t the only one offended by the tone-deaf ad campaign.
New Yorkers took to Twitter to chronicle their shock and disappointment at Amazon for their tacky, tasteless ad campaign:

Not great thinking, Amazon.
Such a shame that a show with such an interesting premise could be ruined by such an ignorant and stupid marketing campaign!
