Broadway Star Nick Cordero Has Right Leg Amputated Due To Complications From Coronavirus

Broadway star Nick Cordero has his leg amputated due to coronavirus complications.

Broadway star Nick Cordero had his right leg amputated in a medical procedure this weekend.

The amputation was a byproduct of the effects of the coronavirus, for which the star previously tested positive, and which placed him in the intensive care unit in the first place. Now, doctors are desperately trying to manage the disease and its effects on Cordero’s body, keeping him alive any way they can.

Cordero’s wife, Amanda Kloots (pictured above, with Nick, on the red carpet at a 2018 gala), revealed the medical diagnosis and procedure in an update on her Instagram Stories over the weekend. Sharing the heartbreaking news about her husband’s amputation and current condition, Kloots wrote (below):

“We are on day 18 of Nick being sedated in the ICU. It is April 18. We got some difficult news yesterday. Basically, we had issues with his right leg with clotting and getting blood down to his toes. And it just isn’t happening with surgery and everything. So, they had him on blood thinners for the clotting and, unfortunately, the blood thinners were causing other issues: blood pressure and some internal bleeding in his intestines. So we took him off the blood thinners, but that again was going to cause some clotting in the right leg. So the right leg will be amputated today.”

Wow. Just direct, and real, and scary, and sad all the same. We can’t even imagine…

To make things even worse, Kloots detailed how she wasn’t allowed to physically be with Cordero during the procedure or afterwards, due to the coronavirus pandemic itself.

Later in the day, she updated fans on her account to confirm that the surgery did go well, writing “Go Nick” on the caption of a Stories post while adding:

“Thank you God! … A plead… I know this isn’t possible but today is miracle day so why not ask. I just wish I could see him. Hold his hand. Touch his face. I do believe this would help him WAKE UP!”

Cordero has valiantly been battling the coronavirus for several weeks now, with his heart and lungs having improved some from his worst times in the ICU, though they are still being watched over closely by doctors.

As of Thursday, he was still on a ventilator. It’s unclear what effect the leg amputation will have on the rest of his outlook against the coronavirus but it was apparently posing a serious issue to his overall health, hence the amputation in the first place. We can only hope things take a turn for the positive soon… this couple has been through so much with this horrible disease over the last few weeks. Ugh…

Sending all of our love!!!
