Carnie Wilson Defends Nepo Baby Daughter After American Idol Backlash!

Carnie Wilson Defends Daughter After American Idol Audition!

Carnie Wilson is coming to her daughter’s defense after her controversial American Idol audition!

In case you missed it, the Wilson Phillips alum’s daughter Lola Bonfiglio recently auditioned for the singing competition show — with her famous mom, aunt Wendy Wilson, and dad Rob Bonfiglio in tow! Watch for yourself (below):

Fans are sick of nepo babies generally, but especially how they’ve taken over Idol lately. This is supposed to be a show for nobodies to break into the music industry. Folks with music star parents have a way in already… Carnie Wilson, daughter of The Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson knows a thing or two about that.

But Carnie is coming up to bat for her daughter. While at the Music of the ’90s panel at the Connecticut Convention Center Sunday, per People, the 56-year-old said Lola’s audition was one of “scariest thing she has ever done”:

“She did great. I’m so proud of her. And they asked us to sing, so we came and crashed the party.”

The Hold On singer said she didn’t think the judges knew they’d all be coming out with the teen, but she called her daughter’s bravery and talent “inspiring”:

“We love singing with her, and she sings with us on tour sometimes. She’s a really inspiring artist.”

Despite how inspiring Carnie says her 19-year-old is, though, the nepo baby criticism is getting to her. She admitted:

“We’re human, and the Internet is so cruel, and the comments are really pissing me off, and I can’t respond.”

Can’t she though? We mean, did she not see this coming and prepare a statement? Did she really not think this would happen when she sang with her daughter on TV?? As far as the nepotism critiques go, she said:

“Would you encourage a doctor’s son not to be a doctor? Lola wants to be a singer, and they say these terrible things. And she was so hurt.”

Carnie went on to say the “majority” of comments about her daughter’s audition were negative and warned haters that life is not all “happy glitter things”. She stressed these are “real people with real hearts and souls”.

OK, we think she’s missing the point here. People aren’t against Lola, they’re against this tactic! If she wants to be a singer, that’s not a surprise. It’s a family business. But because it’s a family business, she has all the connections, money, and opportunities in the world to do so. With her being on Idol, she’s taking the spot of an underdog getting the once-in-their-lifetime opportunity to showcase their talent. She’s in a much more privileged position than the everyday person — that’s where fans’ problems are coming from!

All in all, the momma is “proud” of Lola and is going to continue to “encourage” her:

“I encourage her to do it because she loves to sing. But I’m so proud of her that she was even brave enough to audition. She sounds so beautiful. I’m so excited for her future. She has a stunning voice.”
