We wonder if this turtle used to swim in circles…
A giant circular fossil belonging to a new species of turtle was discovered in northwestern South America. The goliath turtle is a circular as a tire!
Many believe this discovery adds to the theory that tropical reptile populations exploded after the dinosaur’s extinction. Scientists predate the fossil to existing more that 60 million years ago.
Named after Colombia’s La Puente pit, where it was discovered, the Puentemys mushaisaensis’s shell would have been 5 FEET in diameter.
It was discovered next to the world’s largest snake, the 6 to 7 feet long Titanoboa.
Imagine the epic battles between these two back in the day!
