Gilgo Beach Murder Suspect's Wife Files For Divorce!

The Gilgo Beach murder suspect’s wife doesn’t plan on sticking by his side amid his legal troubles!

Following his arrest in connection to three murders from over a decade ago, Asa Ellerup filed for divorce from Rex Heuermann in Suffolk County Supreme Court this week. According to The Daily Beast, the case docket listed the divorce as “uncontested.”

Her attorney, Robert Macedonio, told the outlet that she decided to file in Suffolk County, instead of somewhere near their home in Massapequa Park, since that is where Heuermann is being held. He explained they “are allowed to file in any county” based on New York State Law, adding that his client plans to file more in the case in the future.

Asa’s world was rocked last week when Heuermann was identified as the Long Island serial killer. He was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Amber Costello, Melissa Barthelemy, and Megan Waterman. Her estranged husband is also the prime suspect in Maureen Brainard-Barnes’ death.

She and their two kids were understandably “disgusted” when the news of his arrest. Suffolk County Police Commissioner Rodney Harrison said, per CNN:

“When we initially informed them about their husband, their father, they were shocked. They were disgusted — they were embarrassed. So, if you ask me, I don’t believe they knew about this double life that Mr. Heuermann was living. It’s a very good thing that we got this animal off the streets.”
