Jamie Foxx is so happy to have a second chance at life, he could cry. And he did!
The Django Unchained star attended the 2025 BET Awards on Monday night where he got on stage to accept the Ultimate Icon Honor — and broke down in tears talking about his terrifying health battle.
The 57-year-old suffered a stroke as the result of a brain bleed back in 2023. The near-fatal event, which happened during filming on Back in Action with Cameron Diaz, left Jamie in a coma for 20 days. So scary! But he never gave up. While talking to the audience, the Ray star reflected on taking his health for granted in the past:
“Man, we used to take this thing for granted — that God is good, all the time. I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there.”
He continued:
“I gotta be honest — when I saw the ‘in memoriam,’ I was like, man, that could have been me.”
That’s such a chilling thought to ponder… We’re so glad he pulled through.

The Collateral star continued:
“I don’t know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance — I’m not going to turn down.”
Breaking down in tears, he recalled asking God for “one more crack” at life:
“I said whatever reason you put this on me, I promise I’mma do right. I’mma do right in front of y’all, because I know a lot of times, when we get on we forget about where we come from.”
Jamie went on to give a heartfelt shoutout to his “beautiful” daughter Corinne, 31, who stuck by his side throughout the scary situation from beginning to end:
“You’ve always taken a back seat to everything. But when you needed to drive it, you drove. And you made sure I was here. And at a certain point, I’m going to stop crying, but I’m not going to stop yet.”
The Oscar winner also recalled his younger daughter Anelise playing the guitar for him after his medical team started to lose hope he would recover:
“When I was fighting for my life in there, they said, ‘We’re going to lose him because his vitals are bad. And I didn’t want my 14-year-old to see me like that. But Anelise overheard the conversation and she snuck into my hospital room with her guitar and said, ‘I know what my Daddy needs.’ And as she played the guitar, my vitals (improved). And I realized God was in her guitar. The nurses ran in and said, ‘What did they give him?’ My daughter said, ‘Shh, I’ve got him.’”
How touching. You can watch Jamie’s full speech (below):
We’re so incredibly glad he’s still with us.
