Despite the critical bashing that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has received, there still seems to be quite a bit of excitement around Warner Brothers next DC comic book movie Suicide Squad.
While the anti-hero team up has plenty of BIG name talent like Will Smith, Cara Delevingne, and Viola Davis, it’s probably Jared Leto‘s portrayal of the Joker that people are most excited for.

Sure, it’s going to be hard to upstage Heath Ledger‘s turn as the Clown Prince in The Dark Knight, but doing things like sending the cast a dead pig to help stay in character really sends a message to the fans about the lengths he’ll go.
On top of that, Leto recently sat down with Entertainment Weekly and dished about taking on the iconic comic book role saying:
“The work that’s been done on this character by so many people before me has been so impactful, so incredible, so much fun, so profound, so risky, that it’s a very special thing to be asked to take on that responsibility.”
The Thirty Seconds to Mars singer also dished about making the role his own:
“You just knew you had to do something different. You had to make it your own. That happens all the time. Whether you’re a composer working on a piece of music that was written a century ago, or you’re an actor on stage, reinterpreting a play, it’s very common these days. Directors take on great works of cinema, actors reinterpret roles, that’s been going on for a great deal of time. From Scarface to Hamlet. In some ways it’s really interesting to reinterpret, redefine.”

Leto continued by saying:
“It a weighty thing to do. But it’s exciting. The Joker is one of those roles. He was written brilliantly when he was first shared with the world 75 years ago, or something crazy like that. And I think I’m just really grateful I had the opportunity.”
We’re not sure what to expect from the upcoming flick — especially with all the rumored reshoots to add some humor thanks to the SUPER serious tone that turned people off of BvS.
That said, we’re still going to check it out and can’t wait to see what the Oscar winning actor does with the psychotic clown!
