Jeff Sessions Let His Racism Show With 'Anglo-American' Comment, And Twitter Is PISSED!

no title
Yep, he’s Donald Trump‘s right hand alright. (Which explains why he’s so small!)
Attorney General Jeff Sessions gave a speech to the National Sheriffs Association on Monday in which he once again gave a wink and a smile to Trump’s racist base.

How? By saying:

“The office of Sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement.”

Eesh. At best Sessions was trying to say that the title of “sheriff” was created in England, but that’s a pretty generous reading.
First, there’s no reason to mention race/nationality at all given the subject matter. It’s like if someone apropos of nothing says “you know that Tom Hanks is an excellent white actor.” It’s true, but you really have to wonder about someone just throwing that in like that.
Second, the way the sentence reads, it sounds more like he’s saying law enforcement is an Anglo-American tradition.
In context, this fits right into the Trump white nationalist populism narrative that white people should fear the other — immigrants, minorities, people from “shithole countries” — because they’re criminals. Meanwhile white people invented law and order.
It’s been part of his platform from the very first speech.

Worth noting the phrasing was reportedly an ad-lib and not part of his prepared remarks. Inneresting.
