Jon Gosselin On His Reality TV Star Ex: 'I Don't Think Coparenting Is Ever Going To Exist Between Us'

Jon Gosselin Kate Gosselin co parenting interview

Is it just or, or is this really kind of sad?!

Jon Gosselin is finally starting to realize years after the fact that no matter what he does, he’s just not going to be able to successfully co-parent with his ex-wife, Kate Gosselin, and her apparent drive for reality TV fame. The 42-year-old Jon and Kate Plus 8 alum opened up to Us Weekly about it this weekend, and we’ve gotta be honest… we’re sad something better can’t come together, if only for the ex-couple’s kids!

Speaking to the outlet during an event in Las Vegas on Friday afternoon, Jon got real about how co-parenting just isn’t going to be in the cards for him and his former partner, saying (below):

“I don’t think coparenting is ever going to exist between us because we are never going to see eye to eye. We have completely different parenting styles and she still wants to film, but I’m never going to sign work permits. That already went to court and I won but she went against my legal rights.”

That much is true — and we’ve reported quite a bit on that recently — but even with the kids getting older you’d think that they’d be more open to, you know, making their own decisions. That doesn’t appear to be the case, though, and Jon has been forced to take a back seat in the lives of most of his children.

Though he has custody of Collin and Hannah, the other six rarely see him, and he has little-to-no relationship with them due to Kate’s interference.

Jon acknowledged (below):

“I agree [that they are my children] but their mother [Kate] puts roadblocks all the way. So, at this point I’ve agreed that as long as Hannah and Collin still talk to their siblings and the kids can interact with each other, then that’s fine with me. I’ll go along. And I don’t have no direct contact as of right now.”

Wow…

Looking back on the show’s success — which Jon left way back in 2009 after divorcing Kate — the IT professional had a lot to say about that, too (below):

“It’s weird because our show became almost political, a big controversy. Then I was like, ‘This isn’t for me’ and I wanted to leave. Then I saw a decline in some of my children and I decided this wasn’t for my children and I wanted to take some of them off [the show]. And then for future shows, she was like ‘yes’ and I was saying ‘no,’ and then it became this legal battle because we’re trying to decide what’s right and what’s wrong. Any time there is turmoil, that becomes a media circus. So, here we are.”

No kidding.

And still, Jon acknowledges that things have really changed as the couple’s eight children have aged, with his now-adult twins moving way past all this, and the rest of the kids just angling for a normal life — whatever all that means.

The proud papa summed it up (below):

“My twins have asked me not to speak about them to the media and I’ve stopped. Their birthday came up and I didn’t say anything. And the two that live with me [Colin and Hannah] I decided that I’m not going to talk about them anymore because now I know they’re safe, they’re OK. And so, I’ve decided to just let all the kids be teenagers. Anything else that comes up will just be about me and her, whatever that might be.”

Now that’s real.
