Kanye West References Slavery In New Defense Of Donald Trump -- Here We Go Again...

Kanye West Donald Trump slavery speech

Kanye West is at it again…

The hip-hop star is defending Donald Trump and the GOP President’s political administration in public, this time during a nominally religious speech from Saturday afternoon made in front of 10,000 people at the 189th Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ in Salt Lake City. And some of the comments are, um, a little eye-opening…

The 42-year-old West, who had just performed his hit song Jesus Walks in the minutes immediately ahead of the speech, opened up a bit with his testimony about his journey to religious enlightenment. But he almost couldn’t help himself in front of the large group, transitioning the testimony into a fiery political speech in support of Trump.

“That’s the Republican Party that freed the slaves,” West yelled to the crowd, calling out those who have criticized his support of the Prez, and adding his political allegiances are his “right.”

The rapper continued the political monologue well beyond that, too, at one point saying the thing that’s no doubt getting the most attention out of anything that went down over the weekend in SLC (below):

“And we got the right, right? We got a right to our opinions, right? They try to tell me because of my color who I’m supposed to pick as the president. You black, so you can’t like Trump? I ain’t never made a decision only based on my color. That’s a form of slavery – mental slavery.”

Uh-oh…

Not great, Kanye!!!

Slavery AGAIN?!

Kanye has a hell of a history with the word “slavery,” so it’s not exactly a good sign he’s bringing it up once again here.

As you’ll recall, back in May 2018 during a now-infamous interview with TMZ, Yeezy went off on slavery being “like a choice,” when he controversially said (below):

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years … for 400 years? That sounds like a choice. Like, you was there for 400 years and it’s all of y’all? It’s like we’re mentally in prison. I like the word ‘prison’ because slavery goes too direct to the idea of blacks. It’s like slavery, Holocaust. Holocaust, Jews, Slavery is blacks. So, prison is something that unites us as one race. Blacks and whites being one race. We’re the human race.”

Yeah… Comments like this didn’t go over well at all back then, and we can be pretty sure they’re probably not going to go over very well now, either.

Kanye. Yeezy. Ye. Your fans don’t expect you to be against Trump because you’re black. People expect it because they want to think better of you.

This man is a well-documented racist who made a point of defending neo-Nazis. He’s enacted a cruel immigration policy which separates families and cages children. He’s an alleged rapist facing numerous sexual misconduct accusations. He’s under investigation for all manner of corruption, including being an unindicted co-conspirator for a campaign finance violation. He’s on the edge of impeachment for using his power of office to ask a foreign government over whom he had extreme leverage to open an investigation against his political opponent, something for which he’s ALREADY released the evidence to the public.

This isn’t about race, Kanye. It’s about decency.
