Meghan Markle is opening up like never before.
As we previously reported, the Duchess of Sussex is the subject of Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, a new documentary by ITV which premiered on Sunday, where the Suits alum tearfully described the stress of being a new mother and a new member of the royal family under constant scrutiny.

The 38-year-old explained the unique situation she now finds herself in:
“It’s hard. I don’t think anybody can understand that [being the constant subject of tabloids], but in all fairness, I had no idea. Which probably sounds difficult to understand here, but when I first met my now-husband my friends were really happy because I was so happy.”
Kate Middleton hopefully gave her a lesson or two in being constantly covered by the media! Meg continued (below):
“But my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great but you shouldn’t do it because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’ And I very naively — I’m an American we don’t have that there — said, ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense! I’m not in tabloids!’ I didn’t get it. So, it’s been… yeah, it’s been complicated.”
Even if she did receive some sage advice going into her public relationship with Prince Harry on how to handle it, things seem to have escalated to a level which she’s been unable to handle:
“I never thought that this would be easy, but I thought it would be fair. And that’s the part that’s really hard to reconcile. If things were fair … If I’d done something wrong, I’d be the first one to go ‘Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. I would never do that.’ But when people are saying things that are just untrue and they are being told they’re untrue but they’re allowed to still say them — I don’t know anybody in the world who would feel like that’s okay.”

Archie Harrison‘s momma shared with ITV host Tom Bradby:
“I would hope that people, the world, will get to the point where they just see us as a couple who’s in love, because I don’t wake up every day and identify as being anything other than who I’ve always been. It’s just, I’m Meghan and I’ve married this incredible man and this to me is just part of our love story.”
Today, they try to take “each day as it comes,” together. Meghan added:
“I think the grass is always greener. You have no idea. It’s really hard to understand what it’s like. I know what it seems like it should be, but it’s a very different thing.”
But how have they really dealt with all this? Miz Markle divulged one way which doesn’t work for her:
“I really tried to adopt this British sensibility of a ‘stiff upper lip.’ I really tried, but I think that what that does internally is probably really damaging.”
The mum of one recalled a conversation she had with her husband (below), and revealed her special nickname for him, too:
“I have said for a long time to H, that’s what I call him, ‘It’s not enough to just survive something. That’s not the point of life. You have got to thrive. You have got to feel happy.'”
