What a positive health update!
During her Thursday appearance on Stephen Colbert‘s The Late Show, Meghan McCain opened up about her father, Senator John McCain‘ brain cancer battle. In case you forgot, back in July, the Republican senator announced that he has been diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma.

The diagnosis came mere days after he underwent a craniotomy to remove a blood clot from just above his eye. Fans of the former presidential hopeful became worried when he was hospitalized in December from side effects of his cancer therapy. Well, thanks to The View cohost, we’ve since learned that the 81-year-old is “doing really well.”
The blonde TV personality shared:

“My dad, as everyone probably knows, he has glioblastoma multi-form grade four, which is brain cancer. He is in Sedona, Arizona, right now at our ranch doing physical therapy and he has amazing doctors and he’s doing really well… It’s a really, really scary cancer. My family is no different than any other family who has experience with cancer.”

Awwwww. We’re happy to hear that he’s doing better.
On his December struggles, Miz McCain noted:

“He had a sort of rough time at Christmas and he’s made this crazy amazing recovery which I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at, he is so resilient in so many different ways. He’s a tough bastard.”

You can say that again. As you surely know, John was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War.
In regards to when her father may return to Washington for work, Meghan quipped:

“He’s doing well and I hope he comes back to Washington very soon because I would like to see him go up against Trump a little more.”

Hear! Hear!
Thankfully, the 33-year-old has had quite the support system during this time. Specifically, McCain is grateful for the support Joe Biden has given her. Despite their differing political beliefs, the two have become close as cancer has affected both their families.

“I disagree with his politics like 75 percent but I have cried to him on multiple occasions about cancer so I would have a very, very difficult time and he’s never talked crap about my dad’s service so that certainly gives him a leg up as well… There’s something about Joe Biden that if he ends up running for president, I’m totally fucked because I love him and he’s such a warm, wonderful man and I can call him at any time when I’m feeling overwhelmed by cancer.”

Well said. She continued:

“I can’t express to you and to everyone here what his support and his love of him and his family has meant to me at this moment because cancer is scary and having someone like him who’s been through so much tragedy to empathize and actually give his time, especially because he’s one of the most powerful people on the planet.”

*Sniff* Be sure to watch her sit down with Stephen for yourself (below)!
