Michael Pollan Says High Fructose Corn Syrup Isn't That Much Worse That Real Sugar

Corn Syrup Not As Bad As Thought
Michael Pollan has written a lot about food, be it about fitness and health or sustainability. When he speaks, people listen, and he’s done his fair share of demonizing High Fructose Corn Syrup.
However, he’s now refining his stance on it — amidst the HFCS industry trying to rename themselves “corn sugar” and the sugar industry trying to sue their pants off because of it:

“I’ve done a lot to demonize it. And people took away the message that there was something intrinsically wrong with it. A lot of research says this isn’t the case. But there is a problem with how much total sugar we consume. It shows the brilliance of the industry, which is always a couple of steps ahead of me. They started giving products made of real sugar health claims and [are] trying to make sugar look good.”

Which isn’t the point he was trying to make — high real sugar consumption isn’t good EITHER. It just so happens that HFCS is slightly worse. Real sugar is the lesser of two evils.
We’ve said it a million times: moderation.
As long as you’re taking or eating things in moderation, you should be okay. Just don’t go overboard!!
