Netflix
is responding to all the controversy surrounding the hit show 13 Reasons Why… with action!
As we’ve reported, the story of Hannah Baker’s suicide has been praised for its unflinching look at the very real factors contributing to teen suicide AND blasted for glorifying suicidal behavior.
After hearing people’s concerns, the company has announced via Buzzfeed News that it will be updating existing warnings and adding more advisories to the series as a whole.

The streaming service said in a statement:

“There has been a tremendous amount of discussion about our series 13 Reasons Why. While many of our members find the show to be a valuable driver for starting important conversation with their families, we have also heard concern from those who feel the series should carry additional advisories. Currently the episodes that carry graphic content are identified as such and the series overall carries a TV-MA rating. Moving forward, we will add an additional viewer warning card before the first episode as an extra precaution for those about to start the series and have also strengthened the messaging and resource language in the existing cards for episodes that contain graphic subject matter, including the URL 13ReasonsWhy.info ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ a global resource center that provides information about professional organizations that support help around the serious matters addressed in the show.”

Meanwhile, the series’ stars Dylan Minnette and Katherine Langford appeared on Ellen on Monday, where they discussed the importance of the conversation that 13RY has started.
Dylan, who plays Clay, said:

“The main goal, overall, is to start conversations that we think are necessary to be had and to bring these issues to light and to show them in a real way. If people are talking about it, we’ve reached our goal because these conversations├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥people need to talk about this.”

Watch them discuss season one’s success and the possibility for a second installment (below)!
