And it all comes down to Pop Rocks and graffiti!
Jehangir Mehta, chef and owner of the famous East Village restaurant, Graffiti, is suing uptown rival chef Jesus Nunez and his new restaurant, Graffit, for copyright infringement.
Mehta says that the name is extremely similar to his restaurant’s (it is) and that Nunez is actively stealing customers. He also claims that Nunez is ripping off his signature dish, which uses Pop Rocks.
Nunez’s PR has released a statement saying that Mehta’s claims are false:
“While I can’t comment on his claim that the names of the restaurants are too similar, the whole idea that Nunez is using or ever has used pop rocks on his menu is totally false.”
Here’s what we know: LA restaurant, Bazaar, has been using Pop Rocks for YEARS!
The battle for Pop Rocks begins. It’s going to be epic!
