Sam Smith Believes 'Class' And 'Romance' Have Eluded The Rest Of Current Pop Stars! And He Wants To Change All That!

He ain’t afraid to speak his mind!
Sam Smith recently had an interview with GQ magazine where the 22 year old pop star talked on a variety of topics including why he makes music in the first place!
To which Sam said:

“Make music so you don’t have to go to therapy or rehab.”

But he wasn’t only providing snippets of information — the superstar also talked about his love for Frank Sinatra and the classic Rat Pack gang. Sam Smith WISHES he had that kind of competition in his life! He said:

“I envy the competition that people like Sinatra would have had├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥you know, the people that he’d be standing on the stage with├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥because you could tell he was working off them. I need a Rat Pack, I really do. I should start one up.”

YES!!!
A Rat Pack with Sam Smith in the Frank Sinatra mode? That would be heaven!
But the juiciest part of the interview, in our opinion, was when Sam talked about his love for old school music. Especially its timelessness!
Here’s what he said:

“I sound awful saying this all the time, because it sounds like I’m slagging off current pop stars, which I’m not, because I love pop culture. But I feel like class and romance have gotten lost. We’ve become a bit lazy, not just in terms of music. I miss the days when girls would wear full long dresses and just stand onstage and sing. That’s what I’m trying to bring back: that timeless element. I want to create music that people will be listening to in fifty years, you know?”

We definitely have a feeling his music will be STAYING around for a long time!

Although he doesn’t want to be just like any everyday pop singer! Especially the bitchy ones! He said:

“I want to be a pop star, but I also don’t want to be a pop star. I won’t name names, but I will never act like some of the current pop stars have acted toward me… And I’m very paranoid and insecure all the time, which really helps me not be an absolute bitch.”

And while he would like to be a diva on stage, that’s the only place he wants to have that kind of personality! He said:

“I’d like to be a diva in the sense of having that kind of presence as a singer. But no. I worry all the time, actually, if I’ve been a bit strict about something, am I being a dickhead? I tell my team all the time: Just tell me if I’m being a dickhead.”

We’re sure they’ll let him know if he is, but we can’t imagine that ever happening!
We LOVE this man and this interview definitely helped provided a better insight into a young and talented artist! Read the rest of the interview HERE!
