Summer 2014
Remember how huge Austin Mahone was in 2014?
At the height of his popularity, the Mmm Yeah singer embarked on a nearly two-year-long world tour with three opening acts — The Vamps, Fifth Harmony, and a rising star named Shawn Mendes who had gained fame on something called Vine (oh, 2014…).
It was during this time Shawn and Camila first met, but it was NOT love at first sight.
Camila later told V magazine the Canadian crooner was “always on the tour bus, just learning guitar.”
However, while they didn’t hook up, they did become friends.
April 2015
During a radio interview on Capital FM, Shawn played a game of “Lips, Wife, or Leave It” — the version of “Eff, Marry, Kill” you can legally play with a 16-year-old!
Even up against Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall and movie star Chloë Grace Moretz, Shawn said he’d marry his pal Camila because:
“She rocks.”
So sweet.
November 2015
The first time Shawn and Camila collaborated was for the hit single I Know What You Did Last Summer.
While they definitely had musical chemistry, it wasn’t exactly pure heat.
We mean, just look how far apart they are in the video!
But hey, what do you expect? Shawn was only 17 years old at the time!
Even still, when they performed live there was something there. And James Corden noticed when they visited his Late Late Show couch.
He asked a fan question from Twitter:
“Are you two dating?”
To which both responded with a firm, “No.”
The late night host, who had been watching the two since they arrived, said:
“Can I be honest? I don’t believe you.”
Ha! And when he asked why they hadn’t hooked up, Shawn joked (we think):
“Every time I make a move, she swears me off.”
Corden would NOT let it go… and it seems history has proven him right!

The duo next put out a vid just for fun in which they covered Ed Sheeran‘s Kiss Me.

In a Beats 1 interview, Shawn said his duet partner gave him inspiration for a whole album and revealed:
“Oh my god, she is my favorite person in the whole world.
I don’t think you’ll ever meet somebody who can feel emotion like her, in all aspects. She can feel hurt like no other, but she can feel love like no other, and it’s really amazing.”

Memorial Day 2019
Nearly a full month before the big Señorita coming out party, an eyewitness snapped the two singers together on Memorial Day, May 27.
The source told PerezHilton.com exclusively:
“They were super flirty and clearly on a date!”
Wow! Of course, it all seemed obvious soon…
June 2019
We didn’t find this out until later, but according to inside sources, Camila broke up with her boyfriend in early June.
Camila had been dating “relationship expert” Matthew Hussey for around a year, and everything seemed to be going well.
Wait, was that breakup really AFTER the Memorial Date?
That would make Shawn a sidepiece!
Is that why they tried to keep the romance on the DL for so long?

After all, with acting, movie magic, and editing, you can fake true love pretty darn well.
However, the chemistry was totally there in all the documentary footage as well — and they can see it, too!

The first time Shawmila were spotted getting cozy in real life was on the Fourth of July.
They celebrated Independence Day weekend with some real fireworks as they were photographed holding hands on Wednesday and then caught getting all snuggly on video Thursday — then seen looking “very intimate” at a sushi dinner date.

It didn’t take long before there were more sightings.
Fans saw Shawn and Camila getting cozy sitting on the same side of a diner booth at 5 a.m. in Los Angeles.

Camila doesn’t outright admit she and Shawn are dating in her candid Variety interview (she calls him someone “who means a lot” to her), she does say she’s currently NOT single — and head over heels in love, which was a big inspiration on her next album:
“Falling in love is like an infinite amount of levels and layers and angles. I fell in love and just opened up. Everything was written in present moment.”
