Say what you will about John Travolta‘s ability to perform live at award shows, but he sure does know how to (accidentally?) make people laugh!
The actor was at the center of one of the most memorable moments of the 2019 MTV VMAs on Monday night when he mistook iconic drag queen Jade Jolie for superstar singer Taylor Swift.
He actually tried to present the ersatz Taylor with her very own moon man! We’re still laughing about this one!

As you’ll probably recall, it all went down after T.Swift was awarded Video of the Year for her powerful hit You Need To Calm Down, and her squad walked to the stage to accept the award, presented by Travolta and Queen Latifah. Once on stage, as Swift was celebrating the win, the Face/Off star turned to Jolie, who was in Tay-inspired drag, mistook her for the Lover singer and tried to hand her the trophy! Oops!
The mistake quickly went viral, with Jolie herself obviously enjoying the hilarious mix-up (below):

She wasn’t the only one who thought the Grease icon’s epic eff-up was the funniest thing ever, either!

Speaking on the Jerry O’ Show with host Jerry O’Connell on Wednesday morning, Swift collaborator Todrick Hall, who co-executive produced the award-winning video, revealed how Taylor took Travolta’s blunder (below):
“[Travolta] was so confident that it was her. I loved it, I saw it and we talked about it backstage. Taylor thought it was hilarious. Jade Jolie has made quite the living performing at Play nightclub and she is a fantastic drag queen. Everybody knows that she is the Taylor Swift doppelgänger, so I think that was the highest compliment he could pay her.”
Nice!!! Way to go, John! We’re sure you meant to do that! LOLz!
Clearly, though, Swift and Jolie had a lot of fun with the moment, including a little extra celebration back stage after taking home the award (below):

And seriously, y’all… Travolta is the same guy who messed up Idina Menzel‘s name (Adele Dazeem, anyone?!) at the 2014 Oscars, so maybe this isn’t the guy to hire when you need someone to do a live-read on stage at an awards show.
Or maybe he is! Hell, now he’s given us two of the best viral award show moments of the last few years!
