Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest grocer, has promised to re-create thousands of its own products to make them healthier, as well as work with its suppliers to do the same. This move is in reaction to Michelle Obama’s campaign to combat childhood obesity.
The company plans to reduce sodium and added sugars in some items and reduce prices on produce and develop a logo for healthier items.
“No family should have to choose between food that is healthier for them and food they can afford,” said Bill Simon, president and CEO of Wal-Mart’s U.S. division.
Because Wal-Mart is such a huge power in the marketplace, they have the ability to set new trends and influence its distributors.
Awesome news! The first reason in a while to be happy about Wal-Mart!
