YouTube Star Grace Helbig Reveals Devastating Cancer Diagnosis

Grace Helbig may have been dealt some devastating news — but she’s ready to fight.

Monday morning, the YouTube star, who drew acclaim for her viral challenge videos and famous reactions, revealed in a nearly eight-minute video that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. She explained:

“I don’t know how to do this so we’re just going to do this. I have breast cancer. I know, it’s very shocking, it’s very surreal, it doesn’t sound real, but it’s real.”

She continued:

“I found out about a month ago, and I’ve had a decent amount of time to process and start the process, and so I’m finally ready to share with you.”

The 37-year-old revealed she was diagnosed with “triple positive breast cancer,” which she says her doctors have informed her is “super treatable” and “highly beatable.” She positively explained, “we’re going for cure not remission here, which is exciting, encouraging, helpful, good.”

What devastating news… But it’s great to see Grace remaining so positive. She informed her 2.6 million YouTube followers that her doctors think the cancer is at “stage 2A,” but that they’re “not entirely sure.” She noted:

“The treatment plan looks like six rounds of chemotherapy, followed by a surgery, followed by hormonal therapy. It’s a very clear treatment plan, which is very helpful for me.”

Grace explained that since her diagnosis last month, she’s felt like she’s been “existing with a big secret,” but is now at the point where she’s ready to really share. She explained that a few months ago, she had her “annual gynecologist appointment,” where she brought up a “weird lump” in her left breast after a lot of hyping herself up to address it. The YouTuber explained:

“I thought I was just a stupid little girl that didn’t know how girl bodies worked and it’s probably just muscle tissue, and thank god I listened to that little voice inside of me that finally got the courage to bring it up to her, because she also thought it was abnormal, and gave me the list of a few surgical doctors to seek out. So get those lumps checked, and do not be afraid to ask a doctor what you might think is a stupid question.”

We’re so glad she spoke up, and is now advocating for others to prioritize their own health!

The influencer added that she’s also spoken to fellow YouTuber Hank Green, who revealed his own cancer diagnosis in May:

“I have been texting with him, and his videos have been so incredibly helpful. I am now eagerly awaiting for his cancer stand-up to read through, which he has promised to send me, because I’m gonna need comedy through this process.”

She humorously added:

“There’s some humor to be found here. The jokes not lost on me that I’ve spent 15 years not using my boobs to get attention on the internet, and yet here we are, and that I’m announcing this during Cancer season.”

As for what’s next, she explained:

“This is my job now, and I’m going to fight this little bitch of a thing in my left breast as best and as strongly and as gracefully as I can, pun intended.”
