It's one thing to do something for yourself and your own health — and it's another to do something for yourself, your own health, AND you get praise from the mother-in-law (not quite an official term yet!) to do it!

Jane Pitt, Brad Pitt's mother, is extremely proud of Angelina Jolie for making the very difficult decision to get a double mastectomy!

Here's what she said:

If you look back at what Angelina Jolie has been doing since the beginning of the year, you'll pretty much see her normal life — it's filled with kids, activities with kids, and her usual humanitarian efforts!

There's almost NO time in between sightings of her that would make anyone think her health was at risk, or that she was having surgeries!

When it comes to breast cancer, there are waaaaaay more people out there that have to deal with it than you think. From your next door neighbors, to your family — even other celebrities have had to deal with the scariness and tough decisions that come along with it!

Luckily for Angelina Jolie, she was able to make a preventative move and have a double mastectomy after learning about her increased risk. For some of these other brave celebrities, though, the fight began AFTER their diagnosis!

Angelina Jolie's decision to have a preventative double mastectomy in February probably wasn't the easiest decision (we're sure it was as difficult as they come), but it was the right decision as Angelina revealed she had an 87% chance of getting breast cancer due to a genetic predisposition.

It's true that she kept it quiet, but we're positive she had the support of those closest to her! Now, we're hearing about all the support from her peers now that she's spoken publicly about what she's had to go through!

Here's some of what the celebs are saying on Twitter!

The sparkling Empress that is Angelina Jolie has JUST revealed that she recently underwent a double mastectomy in order to greatly reduce her risk of breast cancer!

In a poignant NY Times article, Angie expresses that ever since her mother began battling cancer — a battle she eventually lost in her 50s — the actress always knew she might be genetically prone to experiencing the life-sucking affliction.

The director and diplomat shares:

"My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman.

Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65 percent risk of getting it, on average.

Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex."

She goes on to describe her experiences with various surgeries and concludes the article by detailing her reasons for sharing this very personal information, information she's kept private until now.

Angelina expresses:

"I choose not to keep my story private because there are many women who do not know that they might be living under the shadow of cancer. It is my hope that they, too, will be able to get gene tested, and that if they have a high risk they, too, will know that they have strong options.

Life comes with many challenges. The ones that should not scare us are the ones we can take on and take control of."

Wow!

We are incredibly impressed by Mz. Jolie's decision, not only to go under the knife, but to then share her story with the world in hopes that she can help someone prevent the terrible!

Oh no! This is so sad!

There have recently been rumors swirling about Angie Everhart's health, and now the supermodel has confirmed that she has been diagnosed with thyroid cancer.

A statement released by her rep says:

Most people are content in their silent hatred for cancer (which they shouldn't be!), but not Ashley Benson!

NOPE! If you're going to fight something, you might as well fight the crap out of it — so that's why she's supporting F*CK CANCER, and isn't afraid to wear the loudest shirt possible to prove it!

She's supporting It's Not What You Know, It's Who You Know, also known as INWYKIWYK (really!), which held the event at John Terzain's Bootsy Bellows. The movement is working with the idea that:

'in life we gain strength from the people we know and the relations that we establish around us. By throwing charity events we create an opportunity for people to connect and gain support through meeting other individuals experiencing the same fight against cancer.'
