The new Ghostbusters surely ain't afraid of no ghosts… but should they be afraid of film critics??
After getting an unnecessary amount of flack from self-appointed protectors of the original film and misogynistic Internet trolls, the highly-anticipated Sony reboot is finally hitting theaters this weekend!
To the delight of its defenders, the Paul Feig comedy is scoring generally positive early reviews — but that's not to say the gender-swapped reboot didn't have any ghastly misfires.
Even the critics who praised the film's heavy laughs and action agreed it suffered the overbearing presence of the original 1984 film — and sacrificed good storytelling opportunity for fan service. (Way too many cameos!)
Some critics also noted that leads Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig didn't have the same magic as they did in past Feig collabs like Bridesmaids and Spy — but the presence of Leslie Jones and scene stealers Kate McKinnon and Chris Hemsworth made up for the lull in chemistry.
All in all, the reviews say audiences can expect a summer blockbuster full of spooky fun with a side of girl power — but maybe not much that's going to stick with you…
"You can't get better than the original. But it's a different movie, it's a different cast, it's many years later, and we've also done things that are different. It's not just about it starring women."
Luckily, Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones don't seem too annoyed by their haters… because they know they're really just 45-year-old men living in their parents' basements! LOLz!!!
During the eight-way interview, Bill Murray, Annie Potts, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd officially gave their slimy blessing to the ladies while admitting they were a little nervous about the remake themselves at first.
We can't imagine Bill saying he found the new film to be funny if it really were a dud… so we can't wait to see it when it possesses theaters July 15!

"I mean, c'mon, how can this picture NOT make you happy? This is an epic group of people. Happy Ghostbusters Day!"
The snap featured Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon alongside original stars Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and Dan Aykroyd — not to mention Ray Parker Jr., who wrote and performed the original Ghostbusters theme song!
What's even better is that both casts will appear together on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night! AH-Mazing!
Ch-ch-check out the cross-generational snap (above) to temporarily forget about the film's gender-fueled criticism!
On Saturday, Todd Fisher, and his wife, Catherine Hickland, organized a public memorial service for his sister, Carrie Fisher, and mom, Debbie Reynolds, who died just a day apart back in December.
The beautiful service was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood Hills, and was live-streamed on Reynolds' website for all to experience.
Celebs, fans, and animals alike gathered to celebrate the lives of the legendary actresses with an event that featured a tribute song from James Blunt, a performance from the Gay Men's Chorus of Los Angeles, a dance tribute from the Debbie Reynolds dance school, and tons of costumes and memorabilia on display.
