Oscars Ageism?? See Why New Study Wants #OscarsSoYoung To Be The Next Cause

The Academy may be doing better in representing people of color this year… but that doesn't mean they're completely off the hook!

Though this year's Oscars nominees are much more inclusive in terms of honoring diverse storytelling through films like Fences, Hidden Figures, and Moonlight, there's still one demo that Oscar films have largely ignored.

Well, there are a lot of stories that still aren't being properly told (but that's a different conversation, Scarlett Johansson) — however, a new report has pointed out the stark lack of representation of seniors in this year's nominees!

Researchers at USC's Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism looked at the 25 best picture nominees from 2014, 2015, and 2016 and discovered that less than 12 percent of the 1,256 speaking or named characters were 60 years old and up.

That number doesn't quite measure up to the 18.5 percent seniors make up of the U.S. population, OR the 14 percent they make of film ticket buyers.

But it does align with industry trends. In an earlier study, USC researchers found that just 11 percent of characters in the 100 top-grossing films from 2015 were over the age of 59.

Co-author of the study Stacy Smith said this underrepresentation is a "missed opportunity" for studios, explaining:

Thank you, Meryl Streep.

Even though some might find the actress 'overrated,' Meryl delivered the best parts of the opening bit of the 2017 BAFTA Awards.

Not only was her 'overrated' accusation used throughout the opening to crack some jokes, but she also gave us the best reactions to the Cirque du Soleil performers at the beginning!

Seriously, she did not find that part of the show overrated! LOLz!

Meryl Streep Clarifies Football Comments And Gets Real About Donald Trump In Emotional Speech For Human Rights Campaign — Watch

Meryl Streep is here to clear the air!

The living legend spoke last night at the Human Rights Campaign's 2017 Greater New York Gala dinner, and in a long, moving, and emotional speech, she addressed everything from her now-famous Golden Globes speech about football and Donald Trump, to praising her transgender middle school teacher.

The actress took the stage and started off by clarifying something that she had mentioned in that Golden Globes speech — that she does like football, and has spent much of her life around it:

"First of all, I do like football. Let me just make that clear. I gave seven years, seven of my youngest, prettiest years to being a cheerleader for football, basketball and wrestling." Streep also acknowledged that she was watching the Super Bowl this past Sunday. "I have watched more Pee Wee league football, Pop Warner football, JV and varsity high school football, JV and varsity college level and professional football for over 60 years, more than probably anyone in this room, and, yes, I thought the Falcons/Patriots game was the most exciting football game in history, but in my honest opinion, it is totally crazy that the winning advantage in a Super Bowl tie is determined by means of a coin toss! Sad."

Ha! Love it!!

But after that she went on to the serious stuff, and not only laid out President Trump as woefully unfit for the job, but also spoke to a greater sense of urgency in equal rights.

Here's a video clip of her speech (below), along with the entire speech text:
