Well, we assume it was stalking children — they’re about the right size for an 18 foot python to eat! So what if it wasn’t ACTIVELY stalking kids??
Luckily, it didn’t chow down on some toddlers, because the 18-foot snake was found in time by a Florida water-quality maintenance crew!
They said they run across snakes from time to time, but this was enough to fill all their pants with snake-fear poop!
Here’s what agency spokesperson Randy Smith said:
“Needless to say, when you get one this big, it raises eyebrows. It’s just such a large animal. They have no predators. They’ll eat anything, even alligators. They are ferocious creatures.”
They found it a few miles north of Everglades National Park, and called in the agency’s python coordinator — who brutally murdered the snake instead of having someone come pick it up to be saved. We aren’t joking, he shot it in the head.
Pythons aren’t poisonous, instead they squeeze their prey and humans aren’t even a usual target. We totally get the feeling something else could’ve been done.
We understand that they’re such a problem that the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, that they even hold snake murdering and capture contests from time to time.
We feel like an 18 footer is something special, though. Kinda sad!!
