College Football Star Arrested On Public Intoxication Charges After Bizarre Interaction With The Cops

Not his best moment…
University of Oklahoma star quarterback Baker Mayfield — who was a finalist this past season for the Heisman Trophy, college football’s top award handed out to the game’s best player — just had a very un-Heismanlike night out on the town.

According to police reports, Mayfield was arrested early Satruday morning in Fayetteville, Arkansas, after a bizarre interaction with the cops — and he’s been charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, fleeing, and resisting arrest.
News reports claim that things started during, or immediately after, some type of altercation that doesn’t appear to have involved Mayfield. When the cops asked him to stick around so they could take his statement for the report, Mayfield allegedly started yelling profanities at the officer, causing a scene.
The officer’s report states that Mayfield smelled of alcohol, and was slurring his speech — and when the cop asked Mayfield to walk back over to him, Mayfield began to sprint away.
The officer gave chase, and eventually tracked Mayfield down and tackled him (some Heisman Trophy candidate, right?!), ordering him to put his hands behind his back.
Mayfield refused at that point, again fighting with the cops, before officers finally got control of him, wrapping things up by putting the QB in cuffs and placing him under arrest.

The incident occurred at roughly 2:30 a.m. local time this morning, with Mayfield finally being booked a couple hours ago.
The Oklahoma athletic department had a very, very short statement about the arrest (below):

Yeah, not his best night.

Oops!!
Something tells us he won’t miss very much time on the field, though…
