Billy Bush will always be tied to Donald Trump.
In case you forgot, in October 2016, the celebrated TV personality was fired from Today and ousted from Tinseltown for his participation in the Trumpster’s lewd Access Hollywood tape. Understandably, Billy’s association with this scandalous Donnie moment left him feeling “ashamed and embarrassed.”

For a candid chat with People, the once prominent entertainment journalist opened up about his fall from grace and what he’s learned since stepping away from the spotlight.
On being fired by NBC, the 46-year-old shared:

“I was ashamed and embarrassed. And then I went through stages of grieving because I lost my career. For a man, that’s the ultimate degradation.”

Of course, this wasn’t the only blow Billy received during this time, as he also separated from his wife Sydney. Bush continued:

“I was a happy-go-lucky guy. Everything is going great and I was like, ‘Hey, this is awesome!’ And then, kaboom.”

Oof. In regards to the current status of his marriage, Bush is hopeful that his union will “find its next leg.” The New York native stated:

“We got married young and had our first child right away. We’re taking a step back. We get to explore and take our time. She’s been so awesome through everything. I love her very much.”

However, the scandal allowed Billy to do a lot of “self-help work” on himself. In fact, the controversial newsman has even acknowledged the part he played in the controversy.

He admitted:

“I have done so much self-help work. There is a term for what I did. It’s called bystander abuse. It says by not doing anything you are endorsing the moment. I have to live with that.”

How very self aware!
The #MeToo movement also opened Bush’s eyes to the toxic culture he was promoting by egging on Trump’s comments about groping women. The father of three relayed:

“I have three daughters. They are going to be in the workplace one day. I want them to be paid equally, I want them to be treated well and when they walk out of a room I don’t want to ever hear anyone talking behind their back in a degrading way.”

Now this is what we like to read.
On how he’s changed since the drama, former President George H.W. Bush‘s nephew expressed:

“I had some growing up to do anyway in life. I did so much exploring and figuring out. I’m a deeper person. And I’m happy about using my knowledge for a good purpose.”

Despite his recent apology tour, Billy isn’t gearing to make a comeback in the entertainment journalism world. Rather, he’s focusing on the spirits company he co-founded two years ago. Although, Billy IS working on a soon-to-be-announced project that is inspired by his scandal.
Apparently, Billy “plan[s] to make this mess [his] message.” Very inneresting….
