Blame Brinkley?

Ouch! This is pretty harsh!

It seems that a nine day vacation to Turks and Caicos with her mother, Christie Brinkley, and half siblings Sailor and Jack led Alexa Ray Joel to attempt suicide!

She may have already been depressed from her breakup with musician Jimmy Riot, but it was the constant fighting of the past few days that put her over the edge.

Alexa and her mother have had a rocky past and continually fight over her father, Billy Joel. Christie will constantly bash Joel in front of Alexa, while forcing her to defend him.

“They have knock-down, drag-out fights regularly over issues relating to Billy Joel,” said a source close to the family. “She would tell Alexa that her father was an alcoholic and that she had her father’s genes and that she might be an alcoholic, too.”

And Brinkley would always be on Alexa about her weight!

According to a former family employee, Brinkley demonstrated to a 10-year-old Alexa, “This is how you eat a brownie without gaining weight,” while she chewed the baked good and spit it in the trash.

But, her mother claims to never have seen the suicide attempt coming!

“She [Brinkley] stated that the victim had no health problem, and that she was not aware of how she [Joel] had been feeling,” said the police report.

Alexa is said to be staying with her father and canceled her scheduled performance at the New York Stock Exchange’s Christmas-tree lighting ceremony on Wednesday.

“Alexa is feeling much better. She is with her family and looking forward to getting back on track,” said her rep.

We sure hope so!!!
