Scientists have discovered that dragonflies may not be so scatterbrained like other insects.
In fact, they have selective attention…just like humans.
Be. Afraid.
The researchers found that dragonflies have higher intellectual output while they are hunting for prey. They are the first invertebrate discovered to have selective attention.
In the study, objects were presented to the dragonflies and the insects would “lock on” to one object and pretend the others don’t exist.
Dr Steven Wiederman explains:
The dragonfly hunts for other insects, and these might be part of a swarm ├óΓé¼ΓÇ£ they├óΓé¼Γäóre all tiny moving objects. Once the dragonfly has selected a target, its neuron activity filters out all other potential prey. The dragonfly then swoops in on its prey – they get it right 97 percent of the time.

Luckily, (for now), dragonflies only eat other insects.
