While the rest of the world may have been treated to Emeli Sandé performing the hymn Abide With Me with a troupe of dancers at the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, all in tribute to the 52 people who died in the London bus and train bombing attacks on July 7, 2005, NBC callously decided to opt out of airing that segment, and instead ran a Ryan Seacrest interview with Michael Phelps!
And although it’s shameful that US audiences weren’t given the opportunity to see what many have regarded as the best part of the entire ceremony, the UK songstress has released a stunning studio version of the song, backed by only a piano and performed in one take!
