Seems like Nelly and Ashanti have a bit of a Dilemma when it comes to parenting — or at least, that’s what fans are thinking!
The Y2K power couple’s relationship started back up in September 2023 over 10 years after their breakup. And unlike some other early ’00s rekindled romances, these two actually worked out! They got hitched in December 2023 and never looked back! They even leapt to the next step, welcoming their son Kareem Kenkaide Hayes into the world in July 2024.
The two iconic musicians even got their own TV show with Peacock, Nelly & Ashanti: We Belong Together, and it’s been giving fans a deeper look into their life together… for better and for worse. A scene from one of the new episodes has shook viewers to their core.
In the episode, Ashanti explains how the “wife and mommy” side of her is upset Nelly is going back on tour, leaving her to take care of Kareem. Her hubby had no problem telling her exactly what he thought, though! He said:
“Well, listen, it’s all you, I ain’t even gon’ lie. You know, I ain’t got nothing for him.”
Uh… what??
It’s exactly as bad as it sounds, y’all. In another part of the episode, the 50-year-old rapper told his friends:
“Until he can say ‘I’m hungry,’ until he can say, ‘I need to use the bathroom,’ it’s gonna be a lot in your lap… As soon as he gets to walking and talking, he with the crew.”
Ignoring your baby until it can walk and talk is… Just horrible. Doesn’t he feel any paternal love for the little guy? “Nothing for him”? Really?? Poor Ashanti!

Later in the episode, the 44-year-old singer called out her man for even sleeping through Kareem’s cries at night:
“I’m trying to understand how is it that you sleep through when he starts crying?”
To which he had the AUDACITY to say:
“Do y’all really be up at night? I heard about it. You know what? It’s absolutely ridiculous that you’ll still be dead sleep and he’ll be mad loud. I don’t even hear y’all, man!”
When the actress tried to tell him that the crying means it’s his “turn” to do his fatherly duties, the Hot In Herre artist said:
“Baby, I’ll give you the world… I just ain’t changing no diapers.”
WOW.
And as if he couldn’t make himself look any worse, when Ashanti called the nanny — you know, the one who actually helps her take care of her child — he asked why she never gets that “excited” when he calls her! OMG!

As you can imagine, fans were HEATED online! They voiced their opinions loudly on social media, with some writing:
“So she’s a married single mom? Lol. Got it.”

Whew… Some did defend Nelly, though:
“Yall love picking the “bad parts” of a show. The whole show he loves on her, attracted to her, respects her, spoils her, etc but yall picked this??? Lol. And it’s not even a problem, they like it”
“Sad for her? The man said he’ll provide all the nannies she needs to help. That’s a fair balance. We mad at men who won’t help and can’t provide a nanny.“
“Even in marriage the WOMAN is the primary caretaker. Keep that in mind when deciding to have kids”
“Honestly, he told her from jump that he was 50 and already been there, done that with his other kids. She still chose to marry him and have a baby knowing exactly how he was. I hate this for her.”
