One step forward, two steps back…
As you’ve hopefully seen by now, HGTV‘s most popular series Fixer Upper found itself a scandal last week when it was revealed hosts Chip and Joanna Gaines belong to a notoriously homophobic church.
While the network itself was quick to deny BuzzFeed‘s report that the home improvement reality show was anti-LGBT, the husband/wife pair was noticeably less concerned by their controversy.

In fact, it wasn’t until after whistle-blowers Kate Arthur and Cosmopolitan‘s Gina Mei started getting attacked online that Chip finally acknowledged the report on Twitter… by effectively refusing to make a statement on Saturday, tweeting:
Regardless of our decision to make a statement about all this craziness, or not, I ask that people please! respect @KateAurthur & @ginamei

While we agree the writers shouldn’t be punished… this really only serves to make Chip look better without him really adding anything new to the conversation at all.
Though he did KINDA respond the next day… by letting everyone know the Gaines family still made it to church on Sunday:
