Jennifer Lopez and Violet Affleck have been spending a lot of quality time together amid J.Lo and Ben Affleck‘s rumored divorce. While that’s certainly been nice, especially for the teen, it’s also SUPER “tricky” for her father.
If you missed it, the 18-year-old and the pop star have been seen in the Hamptons over the last several days — while the college-bound kiddo’s dad has been all the way across the country at home in LA. A solo trip with her stepmom? That speaks volumes — especially considering the couple’s combined five kids are said to be upset over the potential split and want the former lovebirds back together. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like things are headed in that direction — which makes Violet and Jennifer’s relationship more than a little complicated!

Speaking to ET on Wednesday, an insider explained that Ben and Jen “are trying to make this transition as easy as possible and be gentle on their children. They don’t want to make things more upsetting than they already have been.” So these sightings don’t mean there’s more hope for a reconciliation. They’re just not cutting the children off cold turkey! Aw, this is so sad!
It’s no secret that divorces are never easy, but having to navigate children’s feelings just makes it ten times more complicated. And even though Bennifer doesn’t share any children together, several of the kids have gotten super close — or, in this case, a child and stepparent! This particular bond is not lost on anyone, and that’s why Ben is helping to make sure it doesn’t fizzle with the failed romance. The insider said:
“[Jennifer and Violet] have gotten close throughout Jen and Ben’s relationship, and maintaining that closeness is important to everyone.”
Well, that’s healthy! But as you can imagine, this is NOT easy for the father of three, as the confidant pointed out:
“Ben certainly doesn’t want to cause any strain between Jen and Violet, and he is in support of them spending time together. It’s a little tricky for him, but both Jen and Ben want all their kids to be happy, regardless of the issues they are facing in their marriage.”
It’s certainly impressive that they’re both able to put their differences aside for the kids! That can’t be easy!
Just don’t get it twisted! They may be trying to do what’s best for the children right now, but this (reportedly very calculated) divorce is happening — and putting their shared mansion up for sale proves it. The source continued:
“They are trying to sell their home sooner than later and want to move forward. They are hoping to have clear, new, and healthy directions for themselves and for their families. They are trying to be strong, but it is a sad time for everyone, and it is difficult to have to deal with everything playing out publicly.”
Hmm. We wonder if those “clear, new, and healthy directions” will continue to involve such close relationships with their ex’s kids or not? Violet is an adult now, who can make her own decisions — and all the kids have faced previous divorces — so we hope she’ll get to remain close to J.Lo if she wants! But, yeah, “tricky” seems to be a major understatement!
