Just over a week ago, Hollywood was shocked when Growing Pains star Alan Thicke passed away at 69-years old. Following the sad news, a TON of celebs took to Twitter to share their reactions and remember the star.

While Thicke’s costars from his ABC show all shared extremely loving messages, Joanna Kerns, who played the actor’s wife on the hit sitcom had a bit more to say!
In Entertainment Weekly‘s most recent issue, Miz Kerns paid tribute to the star, dishing on the first time she met Alan and what she learned from the late celeb.
The 63-year-old shared:
“I met Alan for the first time as we walked down the long hallway at ABC to audition for Growing Pains. We were in similar places. My first marriage was falling apart, and he was in the middle of a divorce. We both had young kids, both had recently canceled shows, so we needed this one to work. We talked as we walked. He made me laugh. A little flirting was going on, as it always was with Alan ├óΓé¼┬ª with everybody!”
Joanna, who refers to Alan has her “biggest supporter,” also talked about getting advice from the star:
“When I wanted to move from acting to directing, I asked his advice because he was a major writer-producer, the Emmy-nominated star of a Canadian talk show. And without a second thought, he said, ├óΓé¼╦£Well, you’re old ├óΓé¼┬ª but you’d make a great director. You’re opinionated, stubborn, strong, and you love telling everyone what to do.’ Then he smiled. That was Alan. He was snarky but direct.”
Of course the blonde beauty couldn’t help but gush about her former costar either as she described him as “handsome, cocky and fiercely intelligent.” Adorably, Kerns went on to say Robin Thicke‘s dad “lived to connect with people, and even more important, he loved to make them laugh.”
In the end, Joanna is EXTREMELY appreciative of her time on Growing Pains:
“It lifted us both out of insecurity and changed my life forever. Best of all, it introduced me to Alan. He was my mentor and friend, and I loved him.”
Awww!
We still can’t believe Alan’s gone, but we’re glad so many people have happy memories of him!
