John Legend Gets Candid About Calling Out Kanye West For His Trump Endorsement!

John legend Kanye West politics

Kanye West is blissfully apolitical these days, and we have John Legend to thank for that.
The All of Me singer got candid about his political disagreements with the rapper earlier this year in a new interview with WSJ Magazine, and explained why he felt the need to challenge the Donald Trump supporter publicly on social media.

The Grammy-winner recalled to the publication:

“Clearly I disagreed with some of the things [Kanye] was saying, and I was worried that his saying it might empower some of the wrong forces, might be really demoralizing for people who looked up to him and thought of him as a leader.”

It’s hard to forget Kanye unapologetically putting on that MAGA hat and endorsing Trump because they both have “dragon energy.”
As Legend suggested in the interview, the Yeezus performer was likely drawn to Trump’s brash “personality” and “don’t-give-a-f**kness,” but didn’t grasp the full weight of what his endorsement meant to the people.
Thankfully, Legend educated Mr. West with a patient, soothing eloquence only he could muster:

“My point to him was that when you wear that hat, when you appear to be endorsing him, you’re endorsing his policies as well, all of his rhetoric and not just the parts you like. I think we had to talk about it, because we didn’t want people to be deceived into following his line of thought without considering the full ramifications.”

Eventually, Kanye considered the full ramifications and announced he would be shutting up about politics to focus on his new album.
But does Chrissy Teigen’s husband see himself getting more involved in the political arena? Not anytime soon. He explained:

“People ask me if I want to run for office, but I don’t. Maybe when I’m 60 — who knows what the world is going to be then? — but I love my life now and what I get to do. Part of me does want those things — when I hear things our leaders are saying, I’m like, ‘If it were me, I would do this, this and this.’ But I would not want to go to work every day, even at the Capitol Building or the White House. I just couldn’t see it as the life I would want to live.”

Melania Trump isn’t living the life she wants to either, Johnny. Sometimes, you just gotta take one for the team!
