Sad, sad, sad.

A former Florida A&M University football player was gunned down by police on Saturday in North Carolina.

The victim, Jonathan Ferrell, had been in a car accident and had to walk half a mile to the nearest house. He knocked loudly on a woman’s door for help, and she opened it, thinking it was her husband. When she saw it was a stranger, she slammed it shut and called 911.

The police responded to the breaking and entering call, and saw an unarmed Ferrell walking towards them. They tased him, but when Ferrell kept coming for the cops, officer Randall Kerrick shot Ferrell several times, killing him.

At the time, the police said it was an “appropriate and lawful” shooting, but later did a 180. Their statement said:

“The investigation showed that the subsequent shooting of Mr. Ferrell was excessive├óΓé¼┬ª Kerrick did not have a lawful right to discharge his weapon during this encounter.”

That sounds more like it!

The officer turned himself in and has been charged with voluntary manslaughter since he used excessive force.

Police chief Rodney Monroe also added that it didn├óΓé¼Γäót seem like Ferrell had threatened the woman and wasn’t trying to rob her.

Our thoughts are with the family of the slain football player at this time. At least it seems like justice is being served.
