Katy Perry Faces Backlash After Comparing Herself To A Hindu Goddess -- Uh Oh!

People are NOT happy with Katy Perry.
On Wednesday, the Chained To The Rhythm singer took to Instagram to share an image (above) of Hindu goddess Kali Ma alongside the caption, “current mood.” While over 250K fans liked the post, countless others have since SLAMMED the pop star for being “offensive” and disrespectful to the Hindu faith.

One follower noted:

“This is a shameful and offensive act. You can’t compare yourself with The Great Goddess KALI MAA.”

Sadly, the backlash didn’t stop there as another critic weighed in:

“Please do not compare yourself with God !! You can have any kind of mood what you want but you must respect other religion also!!”

Fair point. Still, Katy’s loyal KatyCats have since flocked to the post in her defense. One fan commented:

“She just described her mood but didn’t insulted the religion there is no wrong in it”

Yeah, but cultural appropriation is still a thing. Nonetheless, a different follower added:

“There is a Kali in every women! Maybe a bit more in Katy. Well Done.”

In the past, the Roar artist has made a point to clarify that she doesn’t identify with one religion in particular. Back in 2013, the A-lister told Marie Claire:

“I’m not Buddhist, I’m not Hindu, I’m not Christian, but I still feel like I have a deep connection with God. I pray all the time – for self-control, for humility. There’s a lot of gratitude in it.”

Although, to be fair, the 32-year-old DID marry Russell Brand in a lavish Hindu ceremony in India back in 2010 — so it’s not like she doesn’t know anything about Hinduism. What do YOU think?? Was Katy being offensive??
