Can someone please let Tristan Thompson know there’s truly only one acceptable time to gift a girl a diamond ring? (HINT: She should at least want it first!)
The NBA star has been on the outs with baby momma Khloé Kardashian for about a full year now but on the latest episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the 28-year-old tried his luck at impressing his ex with a a set of lavish gifts for her 35th birthday! Well, the whole move left KoKo conflicted, to say the least!

It all started when True Thompson‘s momma discovered a diamond necklace waiting for her in a hotel room where she was staying on a business trip in Connecticut. Kardashian was joined by besties Malika Haqq and Khadijah Haqq McCray who explained how they helped Tristan plant the special surprise for her.
The Good American mogul was shocked by the expensive gesture, especially since she was out of town and immediately FaceTimed her ex for an explanation. After he spilled it was “just because,” Khloé candidly replied:
“Oh my god, you were never this nice to me when we were together.”
As our readers surely know, the pair called it quits after Tristan screwed things up big time with the whole Jordyn Woods situation, since deciding to co-parent amicably for the sake of their daughter.
Despite being on decent terms with each other, Khlo-money made it clear she had some reservations about accepting a pricey gift. Speaking to the camera, she said:
“I just want to really make sure there’s no expectations. Like, if I accept something, is that misleading to Tristan? It’s the sweetest, kindest gesture. But that still doesn’t mean, ‘Ok! A necklace is just gonna fix everything.'”
The reality TV starlet told her besties the whole idea of it “freaks me out” and when the pro athlete tried his luck with an “I love you” during their phone call, she responded with a “thank you.”
Yikes! She certainly made her feelings known with that telling response. We mean, did he expect an “ILY,” too? C’mon.
So, what about that diamond ring?!
Well, things got even more complicated for the KUWTK star when Tristan gifted her a huge, pink diamond sparkler for her birthday just a few days later!
In a sit-down chat with Scott Disick, Khloé made it clear she does NOT want to go down that same romantic road again with her baby after he points out the present blatantly looks like an engagement ring.
“I was like, ‘I really appreciate it. I don’t think I can accept it.’ He’s like, ‘Just think about it. It’s yours.’ I go, ‘Not everything needs to be bought.'”
Kardashian said she was actually more touched by the long, hand-written card which supposedly came with the shiny rock because it’s something she’s been “waiting for forever.”
Quite the sentimental type, aren’t we! Even for someone as icky as this guy…
In the end, it appears she decided to keep both items and reflected positively on her relationship with Tristan:
“Tristan is really trying to show that he’s sorry on a daily basis, whether that be a nice gift, a text. I do appreciate that because I know that he’s trying. So, I think we’re slowly moving into the right direction of being friends, as well as excellent co-parents.”

Wow. It looks like the surprise gesture went over better than we could have imagined. But will it be enough to tip the odds in Tristan’s favor in the long run? Could he really have tapped back into Khloé’s heart?

Hmm. “Same babe?” We sincerely hope she’s just referring to the unnecessary public pain she went through (TWICE!) and not actually suggesting she misses that dude. Move on and stay strong, girl!
