We can’t believe he’s gone.
It came as a shock when we learned that David Bowie had passed away after battling cancer for almost two years.
While several celebrities such as Kanye West, Cher, and Ricky Gervais took to Twitter to remember the rock star, sometimes a stranger affects your life so much, a tweet or two just isn’t enough.

While Madonna did tweet when she learned the news, and was obviously very affected by David’s passing, the Material Girl apparently felt she needed to get more off her chest as she posted a tribute on Facebook:

I’m devastated.David Bowie changed the course of my life forever. I never felt like I fit in growing up in Michigan….

Madge told the story of going to that Bowie concert once before — when she accepted for the Space Oddity singer when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1996.
Watch Madonna’s speech (below):

Though the Labyrinth actor has passed on, he will not be forgotten as a tribute concert to him that was planned before his death will go on!
The event is set to take place at Carnegie Hall in New York on March 31, and feature artists such as The Roots, Cyndi Lauper, the Mountain Goats, as well as a band led by Bowie’s producer Tony Visconti.
City Winery director and CEO Michael Dorf who planned the tribute said of the show:

“The show will go on.”

Dorf went on to say:

“Obviously we thought we were going to be paying tribute to a living legend, and now we’ll be paying tribute to a legend who passed.”

What’s even better in the show’s proceeds will go to benefitting charities like Young Audiences New York, Little Kids Rock, Church Street School of Music, the Center for Arts Education, the American Symphony Orchestra and Grammy in the Schools.
Michael pointed out that:

“We know that music education was near and dear to David’s heart, so in that sense there’s a nice tie-in there.”

Though it wasn’t exactly what was originally planned, we think it is a wonderful way to pay tribute to such a legendary rock star!
