Not even the empire of Martha Stewart is safe from the recession!
Her stocks have fallen a whopping 67% since this time last year, placing shares at $2.50 a pop.
And it turns out that Miss Martha might have some explaining to do!
In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, it was revealed that the HBIC received a compensation check in 2008 that exceeded what she earned in 2007, which included “$3.6 million in ‘other’ compensation” comprised “mainly of payments in connection with the firm├óΓé¼Γäós license rental agreement with her, plus $193,066 paid to her as ‘talent’ on the company├óΓé¼Γäós TV show and $100,000 in a nonaccountable expense account.”
Additionally, the company is footing the bill for Martha’s pricey home security and backup power supply system, which it considers “required” but also “recognizes that these costs can be viewed as personal benefits.”
Daughter Alexis Stewart got paid $209,000 for Whatever Martha, which was picked up for a second season.
