The National Rifle Association (NRA) sponsored TV show Under Wild Skies has been canceled!
The show came under fire after it showed an elephant being shot to death and its host, Tony Makris’ awful commentary.
He said things like he killed the elephant “in its bedroom” and that it was “cheeky” when it tried to escape death, only to be shot.
Animal lovers everywhere have obviously been calling for the show’s cancelation for a while now.
Thankfully, it was the host’s own dumb words that got the show pulled from the air.
Speaking about his critics, Tony said:
“And now they├óΓé¼Γäóre shocked. And they said but [elephants are] so big and special and they├óΓé¼Γäóre smarter. And I went, you know, Hitler would have said the same thing.”
Whoa! Random Hitler reference?? What was he thinking? Probably nothing.
An NBC spokesperson said:
“‘Under Wild Skies’ will no longer air on NBC Sports Sports Network due to the program├óΓé¼Γäós close association with its host, whose recent comments comparing his critics to Hitler are outrageous and unacceptable. NBCSN will continue to air all of our other quality outdoor programming.”
NBC made the right call!
PETA threw in their two cents, obviously happy to have this show off the air, saying:
“As close to 40,000 PETA supporters pointed out in e-mails to NBC, viewers today don├óΓé¼Γäót want to see gun lobbyists having fun shooting elephants in the face. Like all animals, the elephants, rhinos, leopards, and other animals targeted on Under Wild Skies deserve respect and to be left in peace├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥not to be killed for a disgusting trophy or a television show. PETA praises NBC for making the right call and for canceling this vile, cruel, tasteless, National Rifle Association├óΓé¼ΓÇ£sponsored program altogether.”
We’re so glad no more animals will be killed on air, just for the sake of TV!
