Ozuna Confirms He Was Victim Of Extortion Scam Over 'Intimate' Video Filmed When He Was Underage

Reggaeton star Ozuna confirmed on Wednesday that he had been the victim of an extortion scam over an alleged sex video that was filmed when he was underage.
In a statement released yesterday to the Puerto Rican press by his management team, the singer confirms an interview his attorney had earlier given about the issue, and sheds more light on the extortion plan.

Ozuna’s statement read:

“Our attorney confirmed yesterday that urban artist Ozuna was extorted through an intimate video filmed when he was a minor. This video was edited with the objective of causing even more harm. At the time [of the extortion plot], we filed a complaint and all the legal measures are being taken, as sending and publishing videos of minors is a state and federal offense. We hope this serves as an example and a message to all teenagers and adults.”

And the star personally issued his own apology, as part of the statement:

“What happened was a mistake of the past. Like many young people, I made a mistake, fueled by ignorance. Today, I’m not only sorry for what happened, but I condemn it. That’s why I looked for help and I am certain everything will be cleared. Likewise, I’m following the process and am always willing to collaborate with authorities to prevent the evil that resulted from this big mistake. More importantly, I ask my family for forgiveness. They are my life’s priority and I will continue to fight for them always.”

It’s interesting that Ozuna would be apologizing, considering it appears that he is the victim here… the video, per reports, purportedly shows Ozuna and two other young men, and was filmed when he was under 18 years old. The 26-year-old’s attorney Antonio Sagardia only shared his client was “doing something intimate alone” in a comment to WAPA.tv.
According to several Puerto Rican media outlets, the person allegedly extorting Ozuna was slain trap artist Kevin Fret.
Fret, who was openly gay himself and may have also filmed a second video with Ozuna at some point after the artist’s 18th birthday, was murdered earlier this month. Fret was shot multiple times while riding a motorcycle in Puerto Rico.
Thought by some at one point to be a suspect in Fret’s death, Ozuna apparently had nothing to do with the murder. Sagardia shared with a publication:

“One thing is blackmail and another is murder. Ozuna had nothing to do with this death.”

Ozuna’s career took off in 2018, and he had two studio albums ending the year as No. one and No. two on Billboard‘s Latin music charts — so, pretty obvious that this is a BIG deal in Puerto Rico and across the Reggaeton world.
We’ll keep you posted if anything else happens…
