We’re glad this is cleared up a bit!
We’re all familiar with the whole Kim Davis issue by now — she went to jail for refusing to issue marriage licenses to gay couples!
Well earlier this week, one of Kim reps said that she had a meeting with Pope Francis where Kim said the Pope told her to “stay stong.”

Since then there have been rumors and speculation of what went down in this secret meeting, but now we have a little bit of clarity!
Rev. Rederico Lombardi, the Director of the Press Office of the Vatican, released a formal statement saying:
“Pope Francis met with several dozen persons who had been invited by the Nunciature to greet him as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City. Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the Pope’s characteristic kindness and availability. The only real audience granted by the Pope at the Nunciature was with one of his former students and his family.”
He went on to say:
“The Pope did not enter into the details of the situation of Mrs. Davis and his meeting with her should not be considered a form of support of her position in all of its particular and complex aspects.”
We never believed that the Pope was supporting her views on gay marriage, but rather — if anything — the idea of freedom of religion. But we’re still glad that the Vatican cleared things up so there’s no confusion!
