We’ve got some more bad news.
On Thursday, it was revealed that professional wrestler Brian Knighton (AKA Axl Rotten) had passed away. He was 44 years old.
The WWE has since confirmed the athlete’s untimely death. The company noted in a statement on their website:

“WWE extends its condolences to Knighton’s family, friends and fans.”

How sad! Mr. Knighton is best known for being one of the original stars of the ECW back in the ’90s, despite having also worked with the WWE, the WCW, and the TNA during his lengthy career. He also famously had a short-lived rivalry with fellow wrestler Ian Rotten.

Unfortunately, Axl’s death comes shortly after he appeared in a documentary where he discussed his extensive injuries from his career — which eventually left him in a wheelchair.
According to the Bleacher Report, the Maryland native’s cause of death has yet to be revealed. Although what’s odd is that, hours before his death, the wrestler took to Twitter to share a relatively cryptic message to his fans.
He posted:

We are keeping Axl’s friends and family in our thoughts as they go through this troubling time. Be sure to check back for updates surrounding this sad story.
