Selena Gomez Opens Up For First Time About Justin Bieber & Hailey Baldwin Lyric!

Selena Gomez Justin Bieber Hailey Baldwin Breakup Lyrics Quote

Obviously for old school Jelena shippers, every Selena Gomez song is going to seem like it’s about Justin Bieber.

But come on, they totally all are, right?? The Heart Wants What It WantsSame Old LoveHands To Myself… wait, scratch that last one, that’s about she-boppin’.

In this case, the Bieber of it all is completely undeniable.

Selena dropped her comeback single Lose You to Love Me this week, and it felt like a Dear Diary entry set to music. She begins:

“You promised the world and I fell for it / I put you first and you adored it / Set fires to my forest / And you let it burn”

We mean, come on!

The lyric getting the most attention — not all positive — is when Selena sings:

“In two months, you replaced us / Like it was easy / Made me think I deserved it / In the thick of healing, yeah”

That’s the line people think led Justin’s replacement, new bride Hailey Bieber, to post a coded response on her Instagram Story: a snippet of the song I’ll Kill You by Summer Walker playing on her phone.

Hailey later denied she was sending a message to her man’s ex, seemingly meaning it was just a coincidence.

Selena didn’t exactly buy that as she seemed to address it directly during an IG Live to fans, saying:

“I am so grateful for the response of the song. However, I will never stand for women tearing other women down. So please be kind to everyone… Please be kind, I don’t like seeing people being disrespectful or rude to other people, so please don’t do that.”

That high road she took led her to an interview Thursday on On Air with Ryan Seacrest in which she opened up for the first time about the lyrics about which so many were speculating.

Ryan was the first to bring up the words, saying he and his cohost Tanya Rad had been discussing them:

“When you think of going through a breakup, it sucks. We think it is worse, the ‘two months’ lyric that you have in there, that part of it would be worse than going through a breakup, having to see someone move on so fast.”

Selly agreed:

“Yeah, and that I think — you know, I’m really grateful, too, because I’ve experienced that a million times before. And that’s the unfortunate part about what I do. It’s all very real to me, and I’m sure it’s just entertainment for other people…I think I had become numb to it, and it would be stupid of me if I didn’t acknowledge what I felt because it would be inauthentic and that’s everything I claim to be and do.”

If that isn’t confirmation this is about her real love life, aka her rocky history with The Biebs, we don’t know what is. She continued:

“I know there are thousands of people, men and women, who had felt this feeling, and it’s extremely real. And on top of the social media and everything, it doesn’t matter if you’re in my position or if you’re in someone else’s because you’re always going to, somehow, find this negative space. That’s why I have to be careful and I just have to take steps back and just focus on what I’m doing and no one else.”

Then Ryan throws a bit of a hardball, asking how she handles negative reactions to opening up so much.

Hint hint.

Tell us about Hailey!

Instead, after getting somewhat flustered like Mark Zuckerberg talking to Congress, she talked very generally about being vulnerable, saying:

“I don’t know, Ryan… I think that’s why I’ve waited this long to kind of express what I felt. Because I don’t know. I think that’s the whole point. I’m always going to be honest with people, I’ve never not been. I might not be overly chatty about it all the time, but this is where I’m able to release it. This is where it turns into art.”

She finally did come around to answering the question — not about Hailey but about reactions to her loaded lyrics:

“It actually shocks me. Some of the reaction I feel like shocks me in general because I’ve dealt with this for years now. Because everyone writes about something they’ve felt. Everyone. And the biggest topic is love. And in a way it’s not something negative, it’s actually something positive that I was able to experience that, as beautiful and ugly as it was. I think it’s beautiful that I’ve been able to turn this into a new chapter.”
