When Zayn Malik left One Direction in March and subsequently caused millions of fans to contemplate the meaning of existence, he promised a solo career was in the works.
Now, we can catch a glimpse of what that solo career will bring. And it’s pretty much the polar opposite of anything 1D!
To give us a little sneak preview of his new musical stylings, the 22-year-old released a spirited rendition of Rae Sremmurd‘s No Type — and while different, we can definitely see how he’s trying to rebrand his image!

Zayn’s vocals tie in well with the hip-hop style, but whether or not this is a direct reflection of his upcoming original music is still up in the air.
The remix was done with UK rapper MIC Righteous, but fans spliced Zayn’s vocals without any rapping — because, let’s be honest, THAT’S the part everyone is going to judge hardcore to see if it was worth breaking up One Direction for.
