Love is the best medicine!
Since the horrible mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando almost two weeks ago, there has been a ton of support for the victims — and Broadway is making sure they're contributing as much as possible!
Some pretty major names, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Whoopi Goldberg, and Kristen Bell, recently came together to record a cover of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's classic song What the World Needs Now is Love to benefit the Orlando shooting victims and on Tuesday they released their track!
Well now we have even better news as Maya Rudolph and Martin Short had some of the song's performers — Sean Hayes, Megan Hilty, Rosie Perez, and Michael Cerveris — perform the track live on their new show Maya & Marty on Tuesday night!
In a shared message at the begging of the video, the stars expressed their deep feelings of sadness saying:
"All of us in the Broadway community are deeply saddened by the senseless tragedy that occurred in Orlando. We send our love and support and thoughts and prayers to everyone impacted by this act of violence and hate."

In times of tragedy people often come together to try and help in anyway they can.
Well after the worst mass shooting in U.S. history took place just over a week ago, some of the biggest names in Broadway came together to record a cover of the 1965 hit What the World Needs Now Is Love to raise funds for the LGBT Center of Central Florida. As we previously reported, the A-list group — including Sara Bareilles, Sarah Jessica Parker, Whoopi Goldberg, and many more — recorded the song on June 15 at the Avatar Studios in NYC.
We're happy to report that the music video for this inspirational song dropped on Monday! Bless.
Other soloists include Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Matthew Broderick, Sutton Foster, and countless others. Not to mention, many of the talented artists involved with this song will perform the number on Maya & Marty at 10/9c on NBC. LOVES it!

It's been over a year since we last heard about the movie adaptation of Wicked, but we're happy to report we just got our first official news about the film on Thursday.
Universal Pictures decided to surprise fans out of the blue with an announcement on Twitter this morning, revealing that Wicked: The Movie will be flying into theaters in time for… Christmas 2019!!!
WE HAVE TO WAIT 3.5 YEARS?!?!
This could very well be the most anticipated movie musical of all time… so Universal better get started if they wanna be done by December 20, 2019!

Kristen Bell is a feminism superhero!
And according to the actress, ALL women are superheroes! On Tuesday, the gender equality advocate penned a powerful essay for Medium about how "girly" traits should be celebrated, rather than mocked!
The 35-year-old wrote that she doesn't understand why characteristically female traits are perceived as weaknesses, saying:
"For the majority of the human timeline, these differences were openly viewed as female weaknesses; creating a chasm between men and women. And though that view has been quieted, it has not disappeared. There are echoes of it everywhere you look. My question is who decided these differences were weak?"
The momma-of-two encouraged lovely ladies everywhere to embrace these things, adding:

Kristen Bell Pens Powerful Note About Her Past With Depression & Anxiety — Says 'There's Nothing Weak About Struggling With Mental Illness'
On Tuesday, Kristen Bell once again opened up about her dark time in college when she battle depression and talked about how she learned to cope with the mental disorder. Fierce.
In a powerful note for Motto, the Frozen star penned:
"I felt plagued with a negative attitude and a sense that I was permanently in the shade. I'm normally such a bubbly, positive person, and all of a sudden I stopped feeling like myself. There was no logical reason for me to feel this way. I was at New York University, I was paying my bills on time, I had friends and ambition — but for some reason, there was something intangible dragging me down."
Wow. Luckily, Miz Bell's mom encouraged her to seek help and acknowledged that there was no shame in going to therapy.
