Amazon.com Illegally Sells Whale Meat

Animal rights organizations have brought to light 147 illegal items being sold on Amazon.com right now.
Of those 147, some items were whale curry, stew, bacon and hamburger, all made from whale meat.
Ever since the international ban on whale hunting in 1982, selling whale meat should be impossible.
The Humane Society International (HSI) launched a campaign to try and get Amazon to remove all the whale products from its website.
The HSI wrote:

“Japan continues to undermine international laws by hunting whales and trading in whale meat.
These great whale species are afforded legal protection by the International Whaling Commission (IWC) and and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES); yet Amazon.com, through its wholly owned subsidiary Amazon.jp in Japan, is actively involved in the sale of hundreds of whale, dolphin and porpoise products.”

So not only is it wrong to eat whale products, it’s also dangerous because of the high mercury levels in whale meat.
The HSI continued:

“As Amazon.com Inc. profits from Amazon.jp├óΓé¼Γäós sale of whale products, it is responsible not only for facilitating the sale of products from endangered and protected species, but also for allowing the sale of contaminated food products which pose a potential health threat to the people consuming them.”

This really needs to stop.
You can send a pre-written letter to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos HERE.
You can also add your name to the petition HERE.
Let’s hope Amazon.com takes care of this immediately.
